On self reliance Essay
Emerson wrote this book for more educated people. The choices of words that he chooses to use are more complicated, giving the sentence better meaning. Emerson says “a a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of our little minds... with consitancy a great would has nothing to do.” Consistency makes things easier, but with it you have to think anymore. With a constant routine your body will just do it on its own. Doing the same thing every day puts your mind in mental jail.
Emerson wants people to believe what ever is true to you . “To believe that what is true in your private heart is true for all men.” He is saying that you should show the real you and not something that you aren’t. He also is saying that you shouldn’t do something because someone tells you to do it but because you know it is wrong to do it.
I can use Emerson’s ideas in my life. I can always be true to myself and do what I think is right. Emmerson wants people to express themselves as themselves and not someone else.
